JAN BRADLEY - MAMA DIDN'T LIE (1962)
                                    
Started her career, singing songs penned for her by Curtis Mayfield. After a dispute over her publishing rights in the mid 60's, she stopped working with him. She is considered a big northern soul star. 
She stopped singing professionally in the early 70's. She raised a family and became a social worker.

Singer from Edmonton, Alberta, she was considered by many to be the Canadian Dusty Springfield.
"Take My Heart" uses the same backing track as "The Tams" "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy.

THE FASCINATIONS - GIRLS ARE OUT TO GET YOU (1966)


Curtis Mayfield wrote and produced this single, which was  the girls most commercially successful song, reaching 92 in the US charts in 1966.  It did better in the UK charts, when re-released in 1971 reaching number 32.

THE TEMPTATIONS - I WANT A LOVE I CAN SEE (1963)


This 1963 MOTOWN single was the group's first A-Side to be written by Smokey Robinson.


BOBBY PARIS - I WALKED AWAY (1967)


 Classic blue eyed soul from from the New York born singer. In the early seventies, this song along with two other mid-sixties Bobby Paris singles "Night Owl" and "Per-So-Nal-Ly" all emerged as enduring anthems of the Northern Soul scene, a fact lost on Paris himself until he was contacted in 1999 to appear in the documentary film "The Strange World Of Northern Soul"-- he later performed live at the film's premiere party as well.



FRANKIE BEVERLY AND THE BUTLERS - SHE KISSED ME (1965)


Early Single from Frankie Beverly, who would later find greater fame in Jazz Funk legends MAZE.


THE CORNELIUS BROTHERS AND SISTER ROSE - TOO LATE TO TURN BACK NOW (1972)


A Family soul group from Dania Beach, Florida. Composed of Carter Cornelius, Eddie Cornelius and their Sister Rose.   

DION - LOVE CAME TO ME (1962)


Love Came to Me" is a song written by Dion DiMucci and John Falbo and performed by Dion featuring The Del-Satins. The song reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #24 on the R&B chart in 1962.

THE DRIFTERS - I'VE GOT SAND IN MY SHOES (1964)

I've Got Sand in My Shoes" includes a direct musical and lyric quote of the "down by the sea" line from "Under the Boardwalk". I suppose the idea was that it never hurt to remind the record buyer of your last hit - but the ploy seems to have backfired in the UK.


THE MARVELOWS - I DO (1965)


The Marvelows were a Chicago soul group who scored just once, with the upbeat "I Do," a pop Top 40 hit in 1965. 


CHAIRMEN OF THE BOARD - EVERYTHING'S TUESDAY (1970)

Chairmen of the Board is an American-Canadian, Detroit, Michigan-based soul music group, who saw their greatest commercial success in the 1970s.
Everything's Tuesday" is a song and single produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland and written by them (using the pseudonym Edyth Wayne)It entered the UK singles chart in February 1971, reaching number 12 and staying for nine weeks on the chart


TYRONE DAVIS - CAN I CHANGE MY MIND (1969)

His first release, "A Woman Needs To Be Loved" was flipped when the b-side started to get radio attention. The song, "Can I Change My Mind" featured a change of vocal style for Davis with a softer, more pleading approach and tone. The record shot up the listings and spent three weeks on the top of the Billboard R&B chart while climbing to number 5 in the Hot 100. It sold over one million and received gold disc recognition.


ARCHIE BELL AND THE DRELLS - THERE'S GONNA BE A SHOWDOWN (1969)


Vocal group Archie Bell & the Drells are known most for the funky, handclap-happy soul single "Tighten Up," a hit that reached number one on Billboard's R&B and Hot 100 charts in 1968.
